Temporary Arrangements in relation to Perth Children's Court Custody Matters
Information Note
Following significant damage to two cells at the Perth Children's Court detention centre, which will take some time to repair, temporary arrangements for accused in custody who are to appear in Perth Children's Court will apply until further notice as follows:
- Accused who are remanded in custody will appear by video link from their remand location to Perth Children’s Court for all matters except trials.
- Accused remanded in custody and listed for trial in Perth Children's Court will be brought to the court for trial.
- Young persons in custody following arrest will be brought to Perth Children's Court as usual, up to the maximum cell accommodation limit at the court. If the number of overnight arrests is above the safe accommodation limit, the last arriving matters will be sent to Banksia Hill Detention Centre for appearance by video link from there.
- Adults in custody following arrest and who are due to appear in Perth Children’s Court must not be brought to Perth Children's Court. They can appear by video link from Northbridge watch house or an adult remand facility.
- This Information Note is effective immediately and paragraph 1 of Information Note Young Persons Remanded in Custody at Unit 18 Casuarina Prison (23 September 2022) is suspended for the time being.
