Winston Says Goodbye!
Winston, the friendly black labrador who worked at the Children's Court, has retired! For four years, Winston helped kids and families feel calm and safe when they came to court. He was the first dog in Western Australia to do this special job.
At his retirement party, Winston was treated like a star. He got a big hamper full of treats and toys, and even a yummy cake made especially for dogs! Everyone came together to say thank you for all the comfort he gave.
Why Winston was so special
Court can be a scary place, but Winston made it easier. He would sit quietly next to kids, rest his head on their lap, and sometimes fall asleep at their feet. That simple cuddle helped kids feel brave enough to speak when it mattered most.
Judge Quail said Winston was like a "Superman comforter." He helped calm people down and even stopped fights in the waiting room. Thanks to Winston, the court was a much friendlier place.
What is next for Winston?
Now Winston will enjoy a happy retirement with his handler. He will go for walks, have lots of naps, play games, and maybe visit a café now and then. Two young labradors, Perron and Millie, are training to follow in his paw prints. But Winston will always be remembered as the first!
